I only found out about those coin rings this year, too, and would love have one. I would like to know how, and have seen the websites with tutorials, but I would imagine it takes quite a bit of skill and trial and error. For someone without even ONE silver coin, it's gonna be hard to get that project off the ground. hehe

Great job, though. I really like that you're keeping such history alive. Ya hobo, ya!
Thanks y'all !

I hold it with my hand, but learned early that the coin can get pretty hot ! I have a wood table with a painted edge and by holding it down to the painted part, the paint melts and acts as a glue ! I also carve antler, bone wood ,etc. Usualy i just start carving with no idea as to what it will be till i get going.I've sold a couple of things on Ebay as "that soon to be famous artist formally known as Terry"

JC Dont forget to let us see what you come up with ! My buddy found a coin ring at one of our coloniel sites and it's been killin us to find out what coin was used.I could have been a dizme, flowing hair etc.wouldent that be something !

Never heard of a Hobo Nickel or quarter before. Very clever.

Back in my Navy days ('58-'62), the guys had lots of time on their hands. Some would take a silver quarter and a spoon. Tapping the edge of the quarter with the spoon for what must have seemed like years, they would mushroom the edges of the quarter until it was ring size, then drill out the center, smooth and polish to make a silver band ring.

I never tried it....wonder if a SBA dollar would make a nice one????
