Default You never want to see this

Val and I were heading back home from the lake yesterday, and we were about half way between I-85 and Creedmoor on hwy 15, when the car about 150 yds in front of us exploded. that is what it looked like. It was instant dirt, smoke and metal flying every where, A head on collision,The cars never left the road, they just collided and one went straight up in the air, it looked like 6-8 feet, I don't think either car went further than 10' after they hit.
I immediately got on the phone to 911 to report the accident, as I was talking to the 911 person, we noticed that there were several police cars already there, and told the 911 person that there was already police there. Thats when he told me that there was a police chase going on in that area. I told him ok and I think the chase was over. The car being chased was estimated at 90 mph, the car in front of us was doing 55, because we were going 55 and that car never got further or closer to us. We knew as soon as it happened and came up behind them, that there was no way any one involved could still be alive. It was a direct head on and both cars came to a complete stop at the point of impact and still together. The guy being chased came up behind another car and passed him going up a hill in a no passing zone. There was no way the girl driving the car in front of us could have seen the car coming. No brake lights or nothing.
The officer ,I think that was the original one to start the chase was stopped right next to the wrecked cars was walking around looking like he was a little shocked, then he walked toward us and motioned us to turn around and leave. As I was turning around, I saw there was plenty of space to get around off the rd, I rolled the window down and asked and pointed the way around, and he went ballistic with me. He started walking toward us pretty fast and hollering at me, " I said you can't go that way, turn around and get out of here", all the time with his hand on his night stick like he was going to beat us with it. Well I left before he could get to the car. This cop was nuts at the time. I don't know what he was thinking at the time, but I got the hell outa there. The cop was a real butthead.

Why not just put up some road blocks, to stop the guy. I just don't think they needed 4-5 police cars chasing the guy, to cause such a accident to take the lives of 2 innocent young girls, which could have been us.

I agree bbqcook. He should be reported and this incident should be investigated on how it was handled.
I would think the best way to catch someone like that would be by helicopter. There is no escape.

How sad for that family.
I am glad you are ok, I hope you can get over the shock of witnessing this tragic axcident.
I can never understand why they have to have these high speed chases as you said why not use roadblocks,it would be so much safer.

Too many high speed chases end in tradgedy, Most of the time innocent people are the ones killed and the perpertrador survives. I am glad you were not hurt but so sad for the family of the young girls. Scary stuff.

There is rarely even a reason why the person being chased decided to run. I put the blame on him but it did seem to go on too long and should have been called off once they got the license plate number. Nothing will justify the loss to the family of the girls. I suspect the cop that was upset with you had probably seen the young girl who died in the crash. She might have reminded him of his daughter....

This is a tragedy that could have been prevented. Bbqcook have you thought of letting the police dept know what you saw, and how you were treated?

Anyhow my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the 2 girls, Beale.

You're absolutely right, Steve - the chase should have been called off - I wouldn't be surprised at all if the officer isn't sued by the family and he and the department found liable for criminal negligence.
