Default What can I do...?!?

If you haven't already read my last posts, I've been run off from 2 of the places I most like to hunt this past weekend.

Now I'm afraid t go hunt anywhere. It's really ridiculous, and I'm really bummed out.

I swear, I only have maybe 2 things I do to escape my life, and the one I enjoy most is quickly being taken away from me...

sorry folks... just not in good spirits lately (again)... and the ugly, scathing email I got from my ex-wife didn't help either...

:(

You may want to try to get permission from someone in authority to hunt those areas, ask for it in writing. Explain to them that you always remove trash and cover your holes so that there's no trace of digging. Even offer a demonstration.

Then you'll have some ammo when the police stop you. If you're denied the permission I guess you'll have to find somewhere else to detect. It's frustrating, I know but when one door closes another one usually opens so keep your spirits up!

I detected a local county park a few times and found alot of silver and wheaties and a couple of large cents until a ranger chased me off. I called the park office and was told detecting is not permitted because the Archaelogical Society does digs there, I even offered to assist them but that didn't go anywhere.

Don't worry about the email, be glad she's gone!

Oh I feel your pain, especially the part about the email!! LOL Well as for detecting, it is heartbreaking to get chased off a spot you think is promising. But hang in there...you'll find another!

What about playgrounds, ball parks under the stands and swimming holes?

Well, I suppose playgrounds/schools are still somewhat ok (I don't really like to hunt them during the school year, except maybe on weekends), but any kind of park here I don't feel comfortable going into now... and there aren't really any swimming holes here, per se...

And, as with most big cities, the older parts of town are usually the more crime-prone, so I don't get into those older parts of town as much as I want to...

It's just depressing - I haven't found a decent silver coin for a looong time, and I've pretty much resolved myself here lately to finding clad (which is ok, i guess...), but with being run off from the easement... eh, oh well...

Private properties, too. You're a handsome fellah, so I'm sure you'll have no problem askin' permission to hunt someone's front yard.

Kill 'em with kindness and in the end you'll come out on top.

I am going to tell you my secret to finding silver. I look around the neighborhood and find homes that look like they are from the 50's or so. Then I ask them if I can hunt or if they are uninhabited I find out who owns them and ask them. I have been very lucky and have not been turned down yet. I know it will happen. I was approached by the authorities on two places I considered public and they both indicated they were there to throw me out but before we were done I got persmission to stay. I didn't kiss their rears but I was very polite and explained what I was doing and that I was learning this sport. Again, next time might be different but I am hunting private homes exclusively until I start using my Tiger Shark in the water. Don't let it get ya down though cause it can. One trick I am using is to find someone who knows the people who own the property and many times I can get them to ask for me. So anyway, keep a positive attitude and don't tell the others my secret. JC.

I hear ya Portrait...I had the same thing happen in a (cents)...I have an area...I have been hunting for a year or so now...New people taking care of the place...I was so excited...had to drive a bit to get to this area and then they told me...No... you can't do that...Now I am in the process of having to go get written permission...which I had hoped to get in the past...but was told not necessary...(Sure needed in this case)...Now I hope rules have not changed and they are just a couple...who are covering themselves...Keep your chin up and Don't let a few obstacles get ya down!!!!

It does get frustrating at times I know. I have been turned down by at least 2 very "good" friends on private land. Righr now I try to find older ball fields, small parks, and keep asking friends to ask friends.

Good luck to you I know it will turn around soon, Beale.
