How many different types/kinds?
Being new to metal detectors, I've quickly learned that there are different types or kinds. I have two different types now. One requires motion and the other does not. I've see others, still, on TV that seem even different than the two types I have. I've seen discussion here of threshold detectors. What are they?
How many different types are there? What are their advantages and disadvantages? Can someone shed some light on this? I've found some links that shed light on the various types and will add them here as I find them. In general, all detectectors will work in motion or still. When you are in the all metal or pinpoint mode the detector simply returns any signal it sees all the time. When you use discrimination the detector needs the swing, or movement to decide what the object is. To compare its signals. This is a very simplified explanation but hope it helps. JC

In addition to JC Whites reply,I,d like to ad the whites DFX detector uses two different frequencies at the same time.At least that is my understanding of it.Cant explain how it works though
