I'm pretty sure its not, but I would check with a ranger for that particular forest.

I highly doubt it, Most State parks and forest are off limits to detectorist. I did not know that and almost faced a big fine. The rangers were not real nice about it. At least they did not bust me for 4 hours and got some great finds.

Not allowed but as the others have said if you ask the ranger at a Particular park you just may get lucky. The one State park up by State College where my sister lives allows you on the Beach and in the water as long as it's in season and a lifegaurd is on duty if your going in the water. NO dirt diggin at All.

The question was about national forest lands ,,not national parks .

National parks ,historic sites and other areas are definitely off limits ,, but national forest land is another story ,, there are many campsites which are just wide spots in the road ,,I don't thnk anyone will bother you for detecting those type places .

I have done it many times as well as private campgrounds ,and alot of BLM ground and have never been bothered ,,of course I live here in the old west and many things that work here would not work in other places .

I would ask. I hunt a lot of State Parks and don't have a problem. I purchase a permit for some which allows you to hunt the beaches and surrounding areas.

Ive been hunting the Nation Forest in Ind. The HQ that covers your local Nation Forest will give you a brochure on do's and dont... on of them is metal detecting. Reads a lot like the Corps... previously disturbed areas and beachs. They dont give you much problems in the camping or picknic areas or the beachs. I had a problem with people contracted to run the park... I got that solved in a hurry when i called the HQ to send out a ranger.

Cheif Logan state park is about 5 mile from me and it was a old mining town,in the 20s ,then the state built a park ...i have written a couple parks and they said no way....so i dont think they will let us hunt national parks in this state either guess states are different or my be just certain parks in wv,cabwaylingo park is a old cc camp i would love to hunt it but no no..better check with the park system before you head out to hunt it.i cant hardly go to the park because im always wanting to get the coil out of the jeep and start diggin..lol....creek

I live in Colorado.. And Just a couple weeks ago I went to a Ranger Station To buy a Permit in order to Harvest a Christmas Tree..

As I was there I asked if it was OK to detect in the "National Forest" and I was told YES....

But...
Anything that is older than 50 yrs old must stay... She Mentioned this with a smirk on her face along with an eye roll..

So at least here in Co You Can MD in the National Forest...

that forest Not Park.. was Pikes Peak Nat'l Forest.... I didn't ask about National Parks
