Default Most Embarassing Moment in the Field

C'mon, I know you guys have had a particular incident which left you wanting to climb into one of your plugs and just cover yourself up..... right?!

Mine: I used to hunt an old school back home almost daily... the coins were deep, and I had to cut some pretty hefty plugs and go down pretty far to yank 'em out - and as I've stated before, I take great care in leaving a place exactly as I found it.... well, this particular spot is also frequented by the many elementary school kids, and they would always follow me around and ask what I'm looking for, and sometimes even try looking in the plugs where I'd been...

I think you may have an idea where I'm going with this...

Well, one day as I arrived there, I turned the corner to head to the school lot, and to my horror, it looked like a Civil War battlefield.... virtually EVERY plug I had cut was now laying beside the hole, and dirt was everywhere...

Needless to say, I didn't get much hunting in that day, as I had to repair ALL those holes...

And, in another Moment of Infamy, I'd also realized after about 15 minutes of steadfast and diligent hunting that I had forgotten to turn my machine back on after taking a break... :

Now - it's YOUR turn!

May have posted this before somewhere.. didn't happen to me directly, but I got the last laugh.
Years ago I had a Bounty Hunter 840 and a good friend had a White's Coinmaster. He took great pride in ceremoniously removing his detector from a fancy case and expounding on its virtues to me. He liked to make little barbs about my choice in detectors.
One day we were standing his yard and he was making a few sweeps to show off all his "bells and whistles". I turned on my detector and walked over the ground he had just covered. I got a strong signal, stuck a screwdriver in the ground and out popped a silver quarter.
He put his detector away and never said another word about how well his discrimination worked.

Don't feel bad about searching with your detector turned off. One day I was perplexed by the strange way my 840 was acting. The meter deflected but nothing else was happening. I was sure it needed some repair even though all was well the day before. The night before, I had replaced the three 9volt batteries. Guess who forgot to attach the connector to one of them?

Portrait...I have done that before(detecting with the machine off!) for a few minutes or so till figuring it out! lol... I once laid my head phones down and when I put them back on I had fire ants trying to crawl in my ears! Boy was that something!

Diggin a find on a farm and getting attacked by a goose. Sucker bit me and flogged me several times before I got away, chasing me to my truck hissing all the way, meanwhile the owner was on his tractor laughing his head off. Got permission to search the farm for the rest of my lifetime if wanted though.

Ever been got by a goose?

Thats funny, I hunted an old home site built in 1815 years ago.

Gained permission and started digging the older coins, had a pocket full when I left there on a Saturday evening. Before leaving I asked if I could come back in the morning and they said sure.
When I arrived Sunday morning Every plug was flipped out of its hole
I started to get an eeeeery feeling thinking what was going on Ghost???

I think a Racoon overturned my plugs but still not sure to this day...oh... by the way I think there were well over 40 plugs flipped out so took me some time to tidy the yard up

My most embarrasing moment was with Tom in Pa. last summer we had just got done detecting a corn field he found a large cent I got a few coppers and a silver coin and the sun was starting to go down and we get in his truck and he starts driving I start cleaning off the coin and its an 1827 capped bust dime!!! woo hoo I'm all excited and he turns a corner and the dime flies out of my hand and right into the defroster ..... he has a brand new truck and I wasnt gonna have him tear the dashboard apart for the coin... so somewhere in Philadelphia is a truck with an 1827 capped bust dime stuck in the dashboard :)
