hummmm, you a bit more advanced than me at this point. About the only thing I can tell about tones are the sharpness and clearity of some tones over others. I have the MXt and it is a lil funky- It has good coverage and lets you know that there a target near by for sure but, I havent notice tone differences in differnt targets, like the bounty hunter i had; that whistled differnt tone pitches per target.
The Drop offs your speaking off, I have picked up on either, for the most part. I can make a quarter sounded funny at the end of the range. However as soon as I open the hole, it reads differnt if it was deep. again the hunting ground/conditions does change the depth which i dig. parks and school i hardly ever go below 5in because of the old clay base underneath. I getting the hang of it, I enjoy not having to use my spade anymore..
