"I stick in the scoop into the ground just behind the coin, pending the depth I push the scope down to that depth, then lean down on the handle, "
"Respectfully: I am still wondering how to use it, isnt it going to be metal on the required Target with force to bring it on top? If so, you alot better than I. sheww " ------------------------------------------------------ There's 2 quotes from your last post, I use the "screwdigger" the same way you use yours, it's nothing more than a scaled-down trowel. How can your trowel "not touch" an item that my tool will? I try to be as careful as I can regardless of where I'm hunting (outside of cropfields), and have never hunted a "manicured" lawn.....but if I'm ever faced with the opportunity I feel confident I could do it and leave it unable to tell I was there. Buster, if you have a welder (or a buddy who does) try one. Lay the blade on the washer & mark the sides, then remove that section of washer so it (the washer) actually fits over the blade of the screwdriver. I bet you'd find it alot easier than you think. COOL TOOL ! What works for one person may not for another, Same as detectors. I Applaude You on your creativeness. I try and use different diggin tools and depending what the terrain is some work better than others. Some can Master Hand tools while others can Master Power tools so whatever works for the individual is what counts. I'm leaning more and more to beach & water detectin where Ya just Scoop but as in everything there is always the question of which one is better and thats comes back to the same answer... Whatever works for You. There is a Great satisfaction in making something yourself and puting it to use. Hats Off to you Smitty.

I agree with ya Tinman, I just share ideas.......and if I ever hit the lottery, maybe I'll see ya on the beach
I found a pic of another I'd made, never tried it. Made from a pc of 1.25" X 1.25" angle (from an old bedframe) and a piece of 3/4" irom pipe for a handle. Smitty ![]() ![]() |

I can and do use either a digger or screwdriver, depending on what and where I'm hunting, but I prefer a screwdriver for clad hunting... once you get used to it, it's very fast and very clean... for older or deeper stuff, I currently use a little deal I got from Wal Mart by Fiskars - kindof a knife/trowel combo - serrated edge on one side... basically, I just cut a horizontal slit behind the target, then one vertical on each side, and pop the plug up... you really can't help the browning of the grass no matter how careful you are, but the most important thing is to make it clean... everything will grow back eventually, but a badly dug/repaired plug will always leave a scar, both on the grass and the hobby itself...

I trapped (fur) for years, used to make alot of my own tools & gear. Here's a couple of the trowels I made a few years ago. After getting into MDing (since I can't trap anymore) I was suprised at the resemblence of some of the trowels.
