Default I taught a sixth grade history class today...

I brought uncleaned Roman coins to my sons sixth grade class today and had the students clean them and I helped them ID the coins and after they were done cleaning there coin I let them keep it. They were so happy it was such a fun day 105 students got Roman coins, I also brought some of my metal detecting finds and we discussed metal detecting and searching for history in there own area. It was am amazing experiance the kids were so happy, I left my name and Phone # with them. I just got home from dinner and already have 10 messages on the answering machine from some of the parents who have the oldest houses and farms in the area wanting me to come and detect there properties, I already called 2 of them and they are as excited as the kids, I always wanted to be a history teacher and because of my metal detector I was able to do it today what an amazing experiance.
happy hunting to all of you!!! jd

Good luck to you on the hunting and glad you were able to get a new generation of kids interested in detecting. I am sure they will be after today and several will remember today for quite a while.

If you need any help out there hunting, gives us a holler and hopefully somene will be able to give you assistance.
James

Hey JD,

Give them a little demonstration next time, you could plant a coin on the playground and demonstrate to them how to find and dig the coin

P.S. You wouldn't really need to plant a coin....I'm sure you could find one for them quick enough
