I can see where some folks here may get a little mad at her conclusion of our hobby, but..... if you read it closely, I think we can all agree that she was "Bit by the Bug". At times she sounded excited and other times disgusted. I think she was interested in actually finding something of worth but it also sounds like she more concerned about how much it appealed to her daughter and husband.
I think her article was and honest assessment for a “rookie” with little patience. However, to call it the “World's Worst Hobby” is very unfair. There are thousands of hobbies out there that I would never consider, but my way of thinking is, “whatever floats your boat” and is relaxing and you enjoy, go for it.
Heck, I have a friend who can't wait for hurricane season! He tracks hurricanes by the co ordinance's he gets from TV. If you saw him during a hurricane you'd think he was watching the Super Bowl!!!

Life is short. Have fun collecting different species of flies, spiders or dedicate your life to documenting the sex life of a harbor seal!! Whatever Floats Your Boat!!

Happy Hunting and good post WarSawD'

Default Well, You Know Me

I just HAD to go over and add my two cents worth. I wound up inviting her over to our site to see just how much fun can be had and maybe she will pick up a few pointers....

Good for you Pappy. I think I felt like her when I first started detecting. I was so frustrated. Then I got a Whites detector and started finding the good stuff and got hooked. Funny story.

That was a good read...Does this mean I will never ever find anything worth while if I keep detecting..Oh MY, Oh No..what shall I do.Tinman you have any suggestions??? I Know I should go on out and keep hunting anyway. It's a sport and a hobby. It's what I do..I still like it and it makes me happy..Like JC said, she didn't learn her detector. It might have worked out better if she had..Maybe on the next hobby for she will..You won't know unless you try..It's all good..Hopefully she will check out this site and see what it's all about....Buster....

I thought it sounded like my wife. She has hunted with me 3 times. Slept on one of those. Found some clad on the other 2. She now says no more?

I dunno, it was funny/sad at the same time, Beale.

Good story. I think if she would have had some Real Support instead of all the Negativity she may have done better. What kind of salesmann was that Guy ? She was runnin a lost race right out of the gate. She defitenately got bit but had everything going against her. No real Knowledge of her detector, No idea about the different ground conditions, Tryin to detect in all that trash and had NO Idea probably about discrimination and the other aspects and LIMITATIONS of the detector she was using. She might have well been on the Titanic, She was Sinking as soon as her husband Blasted her after putting the detector in the trunk of the car. WTG. Pappy, A Good Dose of TQ may just give her a different point of view and may encourage her to try again and see that it can be enjoyable.
Buster.. Just have a piece of cake and keep at it Buddy !
