BDA, that was a good story. I almost feel sorry for the guy on the beach. Almost...He does not know what he is missing for sure. I guess there are always going to be people out there that don't understand this hobby/sport. I can feel for them...You also handled yourself well on that occasion...Buster....

I've only been MD'ing since Christmas but unless I'm on my own property I surely won't "buck" anyone that's got a problem with me being around. Although I'm only 26 I've already determined that there are some weird and sick people in this world that will always have a problem with you - no matter how un-threatening you may be.

I have about 5 parks in my locality all of which are within a 7(ish) minute driving distance. If I go to one and there are children (and their parents) present I simply move on. These days parents are crazy.

I had a similar run-in yesterday with a little old lady while MDing a vacant property that a friend owns.

Sorry Liquid1, I did get your message. I was tied up. A person I know had a nephew (young teen) get hold of some drugs and OD.

Folks, Liquid1 referenced me in his post so I'll speak up. He is one of the calmest, easiest-going people I know. I think it would be safe to safe that before he'd let anything harm a child, he'd forfeit that brand new F75.

Liquid1, as far as how you handled the confrontation in the park, you handled it perfectly. People are complicated. They're motivated by a whole host of different things. I remember how early in my ministry, I had a woman lodge a compalint against me for being ugly to her husband. It was totally untrue. Come to find out, the reason she did it was because I was handy. Her husband was abusing her physically and she needed someone to take it out on. As I said, I was handy.

The woman who confronted you? There's no way to tell what is going on in her life. It could be a bad marriage, financial stress, health problems.... who knows? But, it appears you were handy. As far as any of us putting up a stand? Ok, so we do that. Then the person pulls out a pistol and shoots us. What have we gained?

A year after 9/11, I was asked to deliver a commemorative address at a local high school. It was estimated there were more than 10,000 people there. What do you say about what happened on 9/11 in a public address? The only thing I could think of was what I learned in school about adding and subtracting negative numbers. Take a negative number. In our case let it represent the woman who was clearly out of line. How do we reduce that kind of ugliness? By getting ugly and adding to it? That's what happens when we add two negative numbers together- we get a bigger negative. On the other hand if we apply understanding and kindness in being respectful like Liquid1 did, the negative of her ugliness comes up against a greater positive. What happens when a larger posititve number is added to a negative? The negative is reduced.

You did the right thing, James. I say you're to be congratulated. You hit her negative with a larger positive and you're the one who walked away the winner. Let me know when, and we'll go hunt that park together.

I could understand the curiosity factor from someone living in the area. wondering if your doing a locate for utilities or what not, and wondering if some new fangled development or construction is pending.

Wouldn't it be funny to find out it was his wife you met the day before? Sounds Like a good day! Nice way to end the week.

HL - I agree totally with your assessment...although I am by no means a minister - I have observed time and again the truth to " a soft answer turns away wrath". By not "getting in her face" Liquid1 essentially disarmed the woman...how can a person argue and fight with you if you refuse to play into her game? Don't get me wrong - I have no problem in standing up and fighting for what I believe in - but I reserve that action for situations that are really important and have a direct bearing on my life. Liquid1 has legal, non-threatening options available to get what he wants - and I believe he handled the situation correctly. Whether the woman was just having a bad day or if she were truly unstable is irrelevant; the sad fact is - in today's society - if the law becomes involved, it ususally sides with the "squeaky wheel" - whether it be right or wrong. Liquid1 avoided escalating the situation - and can go back to hunt at his leisure...hope y'all find LOTS of treasure there!

p.s. I wouldn't be surprised if the woman rushed home and called the police to complain about the situation. If you are MDing there and the park rangers pay you a visit - that's why. (Since they aren't allowed to break up the drug deals and under-age sex going on in the parking lot)

Default Turn the Other Cheek OR Never Wrestle With a Pig

My Grandfather was a very wise man and was always quick to remind me in similar situations to the one you just experienced "Ericsky, Never wrestle with a pig." If you do your going to get sh@t on you and the more you wrestle with him the more sh@t you'll get on yourself." Then Gramps with add "And just remember my boy the more sh@t you two get on yourselves, THE MORE THE PIG LIKES IT!"
Wise words that I try never to forget.

Cheers,

BDA
