I doubt the park Rangers would do much other than tell you to leave. I know some of them and they are nice, reasonable guys.

Im convinced that asking permission only throws up red flags that will lead to a NO, and to a future definate rule!!! If its not stated in the rules on the town website, then im following the rules. People love to get into everyones business, misery loves company. My two cents and rant for the day

Default I agree

I'm with Supra on this one, if there is not ordinance about metal detecting, don't call and ask if it's o.k.! If there are Mder's that treat public areas poorly, then there will be an ordinance... treat the area with respect and all will be fine. If you encounter a MDer that isn't filling holes and such, inform him of the proper way, this ensures that the hobby can live on. Asking makes them think about it, and if the see it as an unacceptable hobby they will make sure that you cannot do it. Just check your local ordinances, follow the rules and all should be good.

You could always tell them too before you start that you will be picking up the sharp bits of metal and trash in the process. That might help.

I have a friend I've hunted with a few times who uses a big screw driver to dig. He jabs the screwdriver into the ground and twists the dirt up and then shakes all the dirt out of the "plug". Leaves an awful mess. Worst part is, he's been MD'n for 30 years. He should know better. Needless to say, I'm embarrassed to hunt with him!!!!

Sorry, just felt like ranting a little....carry on

How OJ can get away with so much stuff and go free but then again the police and everyone makes such a big deal about such a great hobby.

I use a screwdriver almost exclusively, myself, specifically because it's neater... but I don't make any kid of plug - I just probe for it and sorta pry it out of the ground... and if you kinda part the grass runners, you can dig a little without making a mess at all...

Default hi

Ever think maybe the person who said no is a coil-swinger, himself?? Just a thought, lol! Wouldn't want another person out there getting his loot, now would he??
