JC- Here's the link:
How to Make a Ring from a Silver Coin - wikiHow

I think Terri found a video, maybe she can post the link to it.

N1TKO- No, but (eons ago) back in school that's how they used to make them. I may try it on the net one. I have a small tinners hammer I used on the anvil portion of my bench vise.

Thanks all
Smitty

Pretty cool Smitty ! I have two in progress that I'm making.I"m using a mexican peso for one and a half dollar for the other.I bent the peso cuz I dident spin it as I was tapping it with the hammer, but who says a ring has to be perfectly round right.I like what you did with the merc.I am going to engrave something on mine when I finish them. Mine are taking awile to finish. It's alot more work than I had antisipated ! I hope I havent been keeping the neighbors awake at night with all my pounding !

Rip, post pics when you get 'em done, I'd like to see them. If it isn't warped too badly, lay a piece if sandpaper on a flat surface & lay the ring on it & "scrub" it around (do both sides). That'll help take any sharp edges of it as well. lol, I'm with you, it's a ring made from a coin

How wide of a band are you expecting? Yeah, you difinately want to roll the coin as you tap it, and anyone else who tries it, go slow & easy, as you can warp a coin by hitting it too hard, even if rolling it.

Rip-before you continue to "widen" it, I'd lay it on a flat steel surface & lay another piece on top of it, give it a couple "medium" whacks with a 2-lb. hammer & it'll take alot of that twist out. Then you can continue to work it.

I made one out of a Franklin Half today for myself

Smitty
