I run mine exactly as Smitty said. John told me about that method, Beale.

I've always wrapped mine around the shaft and never tried it any other way. I'll have to check it out.

yea me to I'll try it straight up 12" instead of wraped, I have'nt noticed any interference..I can say the F75 is a sensitive little bugger...

My Bounty Hunter, and most Bounty Hunter detectors have a plastic piece at the bottom of the lower stem that isolates the stem from the coil...I run the wire straigh and start winding it above this plastic piece...any wound metal with a current running through it is an inductor...As stated earlier, the cord is shielded and grounded, leading any built up fields in the cord to ground. it should not effect the detector, but I like to not start wrapping the cord right above the coil. A straight cord presents less of a profile to the coil at this point.

Hey folks........Metal detector manufacturers are smart enough to design'em, so we should follow their instructions regarding the proper assembly of cable to stem.
As an example, I have attached a scanner photo taken from the Garrett Ace 150 & 250 Owner's Manual, PN 1526100 Rev. C. If anyone has experienced electrical interference with an Ace 150 or 250 and can offer a logical explanation to support that this interference was caused by the cable being assembled in accordance with the photo and instructions pictured below, I would like to know. Personally, I have never had a problem with my Ace250 having the cord wrapped as shown in the photo. Todd

Personally I think the performance is better this way and it's a tiny bit easier to swing underwater. No need to worry about hanging up on anything during a water hunt. The Excal comes with a lot of excess wire so you've got to do a lot of turns around the shaft otherwise.
BDA ![]() PS Tinman-don't put foam on the shaft by the coil for a water hunt because you want the coil to have negative bouyancy so you can keep the coil on the bottom without fighting it. |

Hummm.... I checked in my Fisher F75 manual and it clearly states and shows to wrap the coil wire from the top of the coil right at the point where it connects to the lower plastic stem and all the way up snug..It even has velcro straps..I think I will stick to what the 7 Fisher Design engineers recommends ......according to the manual....But every machine is built to different specs..just food for taught.. james

I use a Explorer SE so there are no Cable issues.
Everything is Neatly out of site... Now with the Excalibur I now have it set up just as BDA describes.. As do many other water hunters..
