Default Team Honeywell Takes the "Treasure Hunt" Gold!

Just got back from San Diego, where my company (Honeywell) held it's annual 4-day kick-off celebration. This year the theme was "Go for Gold" with an Olympic look throughout.

Throughout the 4 days - we were divided in teams (by business group). Each team was provided athletic warm-up suits (each team a different color) to wear in the "non-business meeting" potions of the event. We had team competition in the following events:

* Sailing (a boat race in San Diego Harbor)
* Golf
* Tennis
* A "Re-build San Diego" work project - where we helped renovate a fire station that was damaged in the wildfires earlier this year.

And the ALL IMPORTANT event - the Amazing Race Scavenger / Treasure Hunt - where your's truly was elected as team captain!

We were provided clues to identify specific locations throughout the city where we would find instructions to obtain certain objects...we were NOT allowed to take any cash or credit cards in order to keep us from purchasing the hunt items...or for transportation throughout the city...so it was up to me to "sweet talk" taxi drivers into taking us places...what a blast!

For example: one clue led us to a restaurant section in "Old Town" where we were to obtain (in any legal way we could) a drinking glass with the restaurant's logo on it. I managed to trade the owner of a mexican restaurant my Honeywell baseball cap for one of his drinking glasses!

The toughest clue was to locate a site where a local festival was being held - talk the band into letting our team on stage to perform a song - and document it by taking a picture of the fiasco...needless to say - there were no shy people on MY team - so on-stage we went...performed 'Living La Vida Loca' (it was a hispanic festival) and then off to the finish line...what a great time!

Long story short...we won the GOLD medal for the event!

Overall in the medal competition - we came in Silver - the "Beasts from the East" team kicked out butts in golf - so we placed second overall...

The highlight of the 4 days was a personal appearance by Jim Craig - the goalie from the 1980 USA Olympic Team - who won the gold for beating the Russians and the Finns in ice hockey...remember the movie "Miracle"?

Jim talked about what it took to become a team - and never to let anyone dissuade you from becoming a champion...good advice in anything we set out to do...

NE WAYZ - just thought y'all would be interested in the TH portion of the event...I thought about all of you as we were racing around town looking for treasure...AND I've got some more great ideas for hunt clues for all of us to enjoy!

The blackmail would have to be for the other folks on the team...I played for a number of years in a band...what we all now refer to as "classic rock" - and in my job I'm always speaking in front of groups of people...so I don't have a problem with a picture being floated around...now the OTHER folks on the team might have a different opinion! I just wish the band in SD had known some Jimmy Buffett tunes!
