Default Amazing!

What an incredible historic find. It makes you wonder why they were cached like that. Was an invading force approaching and the smith buried them to keep them from falling into enemy hands? Were they stolen property or part of a burial mound? Interesting questions but I wonder if we'll ever have at least an accurate guess as to the why of it?

Cheers,

BDA

That is one reason this hobby can be so rewarding! And I'm not talking $!

I question the theory of a religious offering. It seems more likely to me an offering would be smaller. Now, hiding weapons for rebellion would seem more plausbile to me. Especially in that quantity. Bronze was an extremely valuable commodity back then to use as a sacrfice, not to mention the time it would have taken to make them.

I was wondering why someone would need so many Axe's.... Thank you Steve for enlightening me.... that they were weapons. Another senior moment for me!!

Default It's a safe bet that whoever buried them didn't survive to dig them back up

You're absolutely right, Steve. Nobody would leave something as valuable a bronze axeheads buried in the ground, otherwise.
The fortunes of war, I guess.
