Hey Dylan, I think everyone on here is just as excited as you are that you're getting your detector, I would check out the woods for practice, you never know what's laying around out there, those hunters might have lost some goodies, just waiting for you to find them, good luck to you!!

Hunters lose things ALL the time...I lost a silver money clip (with cash in it) climbing into my tree stand...when I realized I lost it and went back to hunt for it - I never found it...wish I would have had a MD back then!

I know where your coming from too dylan. I see your in ohio and were in Michigan so the ground is pretty frozen right now.. Im thinking we should be seeing some warmer weather in about 2 weeks so get that ace250 ready buddy and happy hunting!!

I received my first detector (BH Pioneer 202) for Christmas 2005...I went absolutely nutso waiting for a good thaw to come along...As long as your ground is not completely frozen, you should be able to dig it. In the woods you do not have to be as careful with your holes. I would suggest using a small garden spade. It should be sharp enough to get through any hard ground.

Our frost line is not like it use to be, but in the winter can be tuff. I have a digger made from a lawnmower blade which works pretty well.
