Default Old House

My friend has an old house built in 1890 that no one lives in, and he gave me permission to detect there, the problem is every square inch of this 2 acre property is covered in trash. Bullets, tin cans, and tons of pull tabs. I usually never discriminate for fear of missing something good, the question is, should I do more discriminating here and how much. Remember, I am new at this, so if this is a stupid question, go ahead and slam me

Thanks

Macktrashtruck, I would start to dig everything that makes a sound. That way you can clean out the area and find the good stuff below the trash. If you can grid off small areas and detect them that way..Remember pulltabs sound the same as rings most of the time....This will take time and be a pain, but it will pay off..Happy Hunting...Buster.....

I should have mentioned that I did find a few pennies, a real old knife (that my 5 year old already lost) and a couple of cool things that I have no idea what they are..... so I am having luck, maybe there is a formula, a bag of trash for 1 keeper, I don't know....

Keep at it, it will pay off and you will find the good stuff. If your finding coins then there is more down there....Buster...

Start out in a small area say 10x10 get all the junk out and then see what you get. may take awhile to get the junk out but i am sure it will pay off. Good luck.

Sounds like that ghost town I tried to detect a few weeks ago. Buster's advice is solid. Grid it off and take it a little at a time. If it ever gets above freezing around here, that's what I'm going to go back to doing in the site I mentioned.

Hope you find it all!

Ok, that sounds like a plan. Ill do a grid. Any suggestions on starting at the front or back? Its a big house on 2 acres in town, has a cellar, and some fallen down out buildings. (looks haunted) lots of overgrown bushes. So far I have just wandered around the place.

If it were me i would try around any drive ways or sidewalks...Also check the older buildings you said!..

Also you might want to just go in the cellar and check it out if you can
