Default google satelite maps

wow are they good for checking out new detecting sites especially the beach sites. Was checking out the beaches and some are sandier than others. Going to try to hit a couple of beaches that have not been resanded and see if there are any better and older finds. There were also some lower sand deposits but now that I think of it these pictures are not recent so it might not mean anything anymore. Anyone have any experience with this? and is there a sire that you can see stuff live? let me know. thanks in advance.

Default GoogleMaps are a great tool for research.

They will allow you to spot beaches that may not be in use anymore but might have been popular swimming areas 50 years ago. The info is not real time or even close so there are limitations. You have to watch the resolution as well because you can deceive yourself if you're not careful. I took my boat out to check on a beach that I saw on Google Maps, great location at the far end of the old british army barracks from WWII, should have great old finds I thought. Imagine my surprise when I came around the point into the cove and found that my 'beach' was actually a sand coloured concrete breakwater.
I outsmarted myself that time.

Cheers,

BDA

I use the Google maps every chance I get..Helps to see what's around the area you want to go.. I do believe it is back dated a few months, but still a good source..Buster...

Google is a great research tool. I was looking at a 1840s farm house down the road and i noticed a few lots down there was a straight line of trees which is a good indicator the trees were planted so i knew there had to be a house there at one time. I went and googled the property and within a few seconds i could outline the original foundation of the house that once stood there...

Thats a spring hunt... weeeeeee
