Default Question About The Beach

I went to the beach this Saturday and there were a few sections where the water had dug up more and gone out more than other areas. It looked like little hills all over the beach. In these ditches there were also a lot of small shells and then when I got to the hills no shells there. I detected for about an hour where the shells were and only found a penny that was in such bad shape that I threw it away. are these the openings people talk about to finding lots of treasures? Only bad news is that this beach is not too populated. Let me know. Thanks.

Default I've seen this condition before, Smartfox.

It looks promising but doesn't always pay off. Normally you should look for a cut in the beach that runs parallel to the water and if shells are present that is a very good sign. The condition you experienced has payed off for me in the past. My finds were high up the cut and small silver and off of the wings of the mounds in the water where the wave action had cut down to the gold and then sucked it back out and deposited it off the newly formed point (gold ring and a silver ring). Every condition is different and this is as much of an art as a science. Basically, all you can do is try to determine the highest percentage areas and work those. If you find nothing after a while then adjust your strategy, try a zigzag pattern and see if you can pick up a coin line, check the condition of the sand is it hard or soft and spongy, track the wave conditions and changes that have occurred to the beach in the last few days, try everything until something clicks. In the end, you may still get skunked, it happens to everyone but you're not going to get skunked everyday and occassionally you're going to find a big, fat chunk of gold in your scoop!

Keep Swinging,

BDA

thanks. Now when I go to a beach at least I am starting to notice more things where before I had no clue. I wanted to search other parts of the beach but was with my family and you know how that goes. Also the tide started to come up which is bad for finding stuff. That's okay I will have plenty more chances.
