Default Not so happy this time out.

I need your opinion all, not sure where to vent so here goes.

I went back to nail & screw beach today to have a little fun with my good ol MD. I got to the park and the ground had some what thawd so I went to work. I hit the other beach and same thing nail & screws for days. So I took some of your advice and just was happy playing with the features of my detector and dug nails and screws. Found a quarter and a dime in the first hour on this new beach. The rent-a-cop was sitting on a bench overlooking the beach and I asked him if the guy in the boat had caught any fish yet he said he didn't know, so I started on the beach. Like I said after an hour and mostly nails I moved to the grass areas. Bingo started hitting dimes pennies and a battery.

The rent-a-cop came over and we started talking, learned many folks MD the place during the warmer months... lol that was his joke... still all good.
Now mined you I had been on the grass for 30 mins or more. Well two park maintence works drove by on thier little cart. About 10 mins later here comes the rent a cop. He told me I couldn't metal detect in the park anymore. Mind you all I filled my holes and the grass I had dug 5 holes in you couldn't hardly tell I had been there. With the 2 guys in the cart not even looking at me, I asked the RAC I can't dig in the park? He said no. I said you mean I couldn't come back here this summer and MD in this park? Then he says well only on the beach areas. So I said fine, I went back to the beach and spent the next hour on the beach. I save many little kids from tetanise shots this summer.

I have my MD permit from the City of Reno... W/instructions on what and how to MD in the parks, and of course where I can't MD. The City of Sparks has nothing in the Muni code on MD'in.

So did they violate my civil rights to MD in that park? What if I wanted to play badmitten and the maintence worker had issue from his childhood related to badmitten and refused me that right.

A little steamed at the moment, what say you all. PAPPY?

I would keep at it on the beach. The next time you back you might ask them if you can hunt the grass areas and tell them that you have a permit. It might have been a bad day for the rent a cops and they took it out on you. Don't give up. There is still good stuff to find..Congrats on the clad. That must have made you feel a little better..Happy Hunting...Buster...

My MD permit is issue by Reno and seems to Cover Reno and Washoe County, as there is a county park's ballfield listed. I asked the Reno Parks Dept that issued my MD permit if Sparks had any such agentcy, she said no they didn't.

Me and the RAC were fine, I learned a lot about the park from him. We had talked several times over the 4 hours I was there this afternoon. The problem was from the park maintenece guys. They didn't even have the decentcy to ask me to stop, went right to the guard. /shrug.

(edit) Well I did have a MD and a mini shovel. I coulda took um.

If it was me I would go directly to the Sparks city dept by way of a letter and ask about the parks. Heck they may have a web site, see link.

Contact Us

I dunno they may have a "do not distrub flowers, type rule" In my city they do. I just called the park dept and asked.

It can't hurt the maint workers are not the enforcers of the rule IMO. Good luck, Beale.

I can see you in a tussle with the yard men, you swingin your detector, one of them with a rake, the other with a hose. Rent a cop comes to your rescue, mace everywhere. I think your right, your could take em.
