A good friend of mine in SC told me that during a construction project he was managing in Columbia that an earthmover had collapsed an area of ground - and when they pulled the machine away, they discovered that they had actually broken into an old brick tunnel...rumors of old CW evacuation routes and ammo storage areas (perhaps also gold storage / transport) has abounded in the Columbia area for years...BUT since the company knew that they'd be thrown off schedule if they reported it - they filled the hole back in and kept building....apparently a fine new church now sits on the site...a crying shame!

Yeah - I was living in Atlanta at the time...if he'd called me, I would have dropped EVERYTHING to check it out before they filled it back in....but NOOOOOOO....he didn't tell me until AFTER the fact!
