Default Anyone ever go detecting while wearing steel-toed boots?

I'm a construction guy so my Red Wings are as comfortable to me as bedroom slippers. Naturally, I wore them my first time out with the Yeller Feller and man did they give my detector fits. I guess I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box or maybe it's just because I was so darned excited but I didn't figure it out for a good ten minutes into the hunt. I had to make sure I swung well wide of my toes after that for the rest of the hunt, nothing was going to stop my maiden voyage with the ACE250.(not even my own stupidity)
My Red Wings stay on the site where they belong now but I just wanted to know if I'm the only one goofy enough to wear steel toes while swinging a metal detector.

Cheers All,

BDA

Did it one time with the CZ20 With that machine its hard enough keeping your sand scoop far enough away so it doesnt hit on it ... Didnt do it again...also put a wooden oak handle on the scoop and drag it behind me....Works well on the beach to mark already hunted area

Glad to hear it's not just me. I like the technique of marking your line on the beach by dragging your scoop but I find my scoop fills up with sand after a while and it's like pulling a cinderblock. The bogs I wear have a Velcrum sole and leave a distinctive mark which makes it easy for me to follow a pattern if I'm gridding.

JMHO,

BDA

Count me in, I've done it before and more than once. When I realized it, I lengthened my shaft and really didn't have any more problems.

No steel toes for me. But I do wear My Redwing workboots or my Georgiaboot work boots detecting, actually, I wear one or the other all the time, except to church. Tried that, but the wife caught it before I got out the door.

Never had problems with steel toed boots but I did do something equally stupid... It happened right after I got my detector and I was hunting in my backyard. When I would hit on a target I would dig a clump of dirt and pass it under my detector by hand. I got real excited when the detector would go off. I would sift through the dirt and not find anything. This went on for about 10 minutes until I realized it was my wedding band that was setting my detector off. Needless to say my wedding band goes into my pocket when I hunt now.
