Default Bullets And Paraphenalia

I'm curious, since I don't MD parks or schools. What do you do if you find a bullet or a spent cartridge? Could it be from a fourth of July celebration or a key piece of a crime investigation? Same with drug paraphenalia do you give it to the police and what now that it's in your possession?

I don't know about bullets, but while vacationing in FL, I found a glass vial with a white powder in it. I waited along the road for about a half hour to flag a cop down when I came off the beach. They were always back and forth on that road but didn't see one so I called the police station.

They said they were tied up and could I bring it in. I did and on the wall was a picture of the same type of bottle for drugs. Anyway, the cop acted like I was wasting his time. Found another one the next day and threw it in the trash before leaving the beach.

As for drugs, I don't think I'd want to transport without first calling the police, just in case?

I would say not to worry about a casing unless you know of a crime involving a gun in that area, a live round I would properly dispose of.

I can just imagine how long that drive must have felt.
It sounds like people turn them in all the time. Did they take any info?

I found a small pipe one time. I remembered them from my "past". I will be honest I just threw it in the trash. The only bullet I have found was an older casing. I just kept it with my stuff, Beale.

My brother in law is a state poilce investigator, and I have given him things I found, he always acts like it is just a neat find as if I were handing him an old coin I found. Says nothing they can do unless there was a crime in the area. But, with someone finding it instead of the police, there comes a proper evidence gathering and chain of custody thing.

I always look at it that if there was a crime there then that ares would have been processed and gone over with a detector by law enforcement if in the dirt or sand and such. Spent casings I keep. Live rounds or Drugs or Parephinalia get Disposed of Immediately !

I've found a few spent casings, I just keep them if they're in good enough shape, I haven't found any drugs or such but I'm sure my day will come on our highly tourist populated beaches this summer, if & when I do they will IMMEDIATELY be disposed of, I wouldn't want to be caught with them.

That could have had been a disaster if they exploded.
Luckily it didn't.

Thanks all for replying, I know for most, my questions might seem trivial. But where I MD my biggest concern is blasting caps or TNT, I have yet had to deal with this, yet I know it's possible. No real legal issues, but the drug issue would worry me legally.
