The average cost of disarming and cleaning a 12lb Bormann Shell is $35. A common 12lb solid is approx. $20. I've done approx. 500 artillery projectiles and still have all my fingers (I must be doing something right, knock on wood)!
Sam White

Above is a post from Sam's web site at: Sam White Relics :: Services

This guy was a pro at what he did. Even if one of us finds an old shell from a pistol or rifle, it would be better to leave it and contact the proper people to handle it.
My heart goes out to Sam's family and friends...... Sad story.

That's really a shame to hear, it only takes one time to mess up, sad it had to be a fatal mistake.

Default That's a Terrible Loss and the 2nd Incident in the Last Year.

Another relic hunter injured himself terribly when the same thing happened with a Parrot Shell; blew his house to pieces and he nearly died of his horrible injuries. Dangerous business even if you're a Pro.
