Default Do you melt your finds?

I know at least one person here and I am sure there is more that send their jewelery finds in to be melted down into little one oz bars. I was just wondering how much it takes to do that. Assuming your silver finds are like .925 or whatever it is. I know it is going to take a while to save up enough but it sure would be cool to do.

Silver is pretty easy because it's already 92.5% pure, Gold is a little tougher because 10k is only 41% pure and the 18k, 22k and 24k is usually worth so much more as jewellery value.
I've got a pile of 10k and 14k that is waiting back in Canada to go to the smelter. I'm waiting for Gold to break $1,000/troy oz. before I send it as I'll take some of it in cash to help offset the cost of the repairs on my boat. Midwest Refineries seems to be the smelter of choice for most pirates, if you can get a better deal elsewhere go for it but beware because there are some shady characters in the gold business.

Cheers,

BDA

Pry out the gems unless you want to give them to the guys at the refinery.

I understand they will remove diamonds/gems for you for a nominal fee and return them to you if make the arrangement up-front. Otherwise they will simply put any unwanted gems them into the melt and vaporize them with the heat.
