Default Coil Warranty

It had been asked in a previous threaad about coils that don't have coil covers made for them. It was mentioned that some folks apply either JB Weld or more preferably Lock-Tite Marine Epoxy to protect the coil. It made me wonder if it would affect the Warranty so I E-Mailed Fisher Labs as I was Thinking of doing this to the Coil on my CZ21. This is what I was Told. The application of an epoxy depending on the Thickness to wich it is applied to the coil could Effect the Calibration of the coil. The Epoxy generates Heat & Stess on the plastic as it cures and may result in a Minor affect on the Overall calibration of the unit.
They will Warranty the coil if something is wrong do to the Manufacters process BUT If there is a problem due to the Epoxy It would Not Be Warrantied.
Just thought I would pass this on. Was going to Epoxy mine but not sure now.

I am glad you posted this, I have read some post about spraying truck bed liner on the coil and I thought to my self, You can buy a coil cover for about $10.00 and a coil cover will come off if there is a problem with the coil.I did not know about the warranty thanks

I'm with Dixie on this one. For $10, I'm covered. Cheaper than a new coil.

Good post Tinman. I remember this post and even though its sounds like a great idea if it works, make sure your warranty is up!

I dont think I would use JB Weld...Its made with metal compounds and may affect the way your coil works...Metal around the coil may not be good.

Hey Mate,
The silicone is used to keep sand from accumulating between the coil and the coil cover as this will cause problems with any machine but especially an underwater machine because the sand gets stirred up in the water as you swing and slips around the coil cover. The silicone peels off easily enough so no issue with warranty. Minelab didn't have an issue with epoxy coating their coils last time I checked but Fisher apparently does which is odd because epoxy won't generate any more heat when curing than your coil would experience on a trip to the beach if you put it in your trunk. Sounds to me like they want to sell more coil covers.

Cheers,

BDA

I understand the Silicone caulk around the seams of the coil cover to keep the sand out and stuff wich I did experience with My Surfmaster but I was talkin about Coils to wich No covers are available. I was assuming from what I read that folks were basically Coating the Whole Bottom and sides of the Coil with Epoxy or whatever. Good Points bda about the Cure Temp and having it in Your trunk. Well I guess the Bottom line for Me tho is they say it could void the warranty so I'll just go with it as Is.
Good point on the JB Weld SandyFeet.. Didn't think about that tho I never would use it on my coil anyway but i did read where some people did use it and now I have to wonder If they have any regrets.
Hopefully someday it will warm up so I can use my CZ21 cuz at this rate the coil will still be brand New after I 've kicked the Bucket.
Thanks For all The Imput !!!!!

I wonder if you wear out the coil by abrading the surface against the sand, (something you will wind up doing) if Fisher will say that the warranty doesn't cover excessive wear and tear. It seems that the warranty is really slipping under the new owners of Fisher, not like the old CZ20 where everything including acts of God seemed to have been covered, for life.
Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

BDA
