Default Pull Tabs

When did the style of pull tabs change to its present form?
I found an old Miller High Life can that has the old fully removable pull tab and was wondering how old it might be. This would give me an idea of when my yard was first trashed.

I would guess about 40 years, not to give away my age, but as a kid I remember opening cans with a can opener, can't quite say for sure how old I was when the pull tabs came out though.

The Pull Tabs that came completely off came out about 1964 or So and the Newer ones that don't come off came out about 1975 I believe.

I remember someone posting a link to the history of pulltabs. It was very interesting but I don't remember what the site was.

I found the RustyCans site on pull tab age but mine didn't look like those. The ones they show do not have the ring that you grasped with your finger. I am going to try soaking the can to remove some of the mud. It might have a date somewhere on it. This is the first can I have found of this type.

Back in the 70's the big thing was beer can collecting...my brother and I had a HUGE collection. I remember once finding 5 or 6 old beer cans in a barn that were steel and had a cone-shaped top....not sure what ever happened to them - but I sure wish I had them now!
