Default My Princess Brought Back Some Treasure From Montreal!

One of the things that bothers you as an expat on a tropical island is the lack of variety in local foods. Food is expensive and consists of staple fare generally because everything comes in by container ship. It doesn't take long before you are completely bored with what you can get locally at the supermarkets and restaurants. Needless to say I was ecstatic when My Princess pulled two six pack boxes of "DUNN"S" Montreal Smoked Meat out of her luggage when she returned from her business trip to Montreal. DUNN's makes the best Montreal Smoked Meat in Montreal, maybe the world and Montreal Smoked Meat is something you just Can't get in Bermuda, Anywhere!
Now you're not allowed to bring in foreign foods to a small island because it competes with the local merchants and so My Princess had to do a little bit of 'judicious' packing of her bags when she 'brought' the Smoked Meat back. At the Airport she was a little worried of course and it got worse when the sniffer dog started sniffing her luggage which attracted the attention of the dogs handler. My wife is a Princess but some Pirate must have rubbed off on her because rather than pull away from the dog (never do this!) she bent down and started petting it and then she batted those baby blues of hers at the handler and said "he must be really interested in the scent of my dog who's in heat right now, It's so Good to Be Back Home in Bermuda" and then she smiled that sweet smile of hers and the handler smiled back and she breezed through the airport doors to my waiting arms. God I Love that Gal of Mine!
Last night I made us up some Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches on Dark Rye Bread with Aged Swiss Cheese, Lots of Hot Dijon Mustard with a side of Kosher Pickles and Saurkraut! Absolute Heaven! and all the better because I haven't tasted one in over 2 years.

Just had to share this,

BDA

It's similar but better, my friend. The Montreal Smoked Meat makes all the difference in the world. Now if I could just get some 'Poutine' with real squeeky cheese that would be the icing on the cake.

Cheers Mate,

That looks so good! I'm so happy she could bring some mainland treats back with her. Hopefully it's enough to last you a fair bit. ENJOY!!!

Regrettably, we've agreed to share about half of the 'loot' with some of our Canadian friends here in Bermuda who also need a Montreal Smoked Meat 'Fix'. You really become a food junky when you live on an isolated island like Bermuda. Conversations at parties can go on and on about where the best Cherry Cheese Cake is to be found or which Deli is the most incredible or even how much fun it is to go through a drive thru window instead of queuing up at a counter (Nope! no drive thrus in Bermuda either).

It must sound wierd to you, but it's true.

It's interesting how we can easily take for granted some of the most simple pleasures. I guess anything can get old. I don't guess Anthony Bourdaine is gonna be showin' up in Bermuda anytime soon?

It is amazing how we miss our comfort foods of choice when traveling or living abroad. When I was young and traveling the world I would ask my mom to send me oreo cookies and doritos in her incredible care packages.. glad to hear you got your meat from montreal!!
