Default folks talking to you....

While you are swinging the coil...Nearly every time I go out someone wants to talk to me,usually they ask how much the machine's cost and say they always wanted to do it. I've been hitting the park everyday while on my lunch,so I only have a few minutes to swing so usually,I just slip one side of my earmuffs off so we can carry on converaation. If I'm at the playground,I mention all the wires/nails/screws/live .22 shells that I've pulled out usually this gains wide acceptance for the intrusion onto the totlot, does this happen to you?

Depends how I am feeling........ if short of time or I just want a bit of peace and quiet if I see someone coming out the corner of my eye,I pretend that I don'tknow they are headed in my direction and wander of in the other direction, other times I will gladly pass the time of day with them.

I usually don't mind talking to people but if I'm not in the mood, I become one of the stereotypical metal detectorists, hunched over looking at the ground, oblivious to my surroundings

I'm pretty intense when I'm on a surf hunt, especially if I'm in the zone, so I only get approached occassionally. People do come up to me to talk about detecting, often because they've never seen a submersible unit before. The questions are generally the same and occassionally I get asked if I've found something they've lost, sometimes years previously.
I have noticed that Chris gets approached a fair bit and sly pirate apprentice that he is he directs these folks to me, which leaves him free to keep right on detecting, Clever Lad!

Cheers,

BDA

I'm not too good at making people not want to talk to me. I usually get roped into a long discussion...the whole time I'm wanting to keep hunting, but some people really like to talk...a whole bunch!!! Some of the smart ones get the hint, if I keep swingin' and some of them don't. Just somethin' we have to put up with. They always ask how much it costs, especially the kids. I'm sure they want to know if their parents can buy them one.

It does happen to me. It's usually young kids or adults wanting to know if I hit "The Big Money". I don't mind carrying on conversations. I really like to talk when I'm CW relic hunting. It's good to share the history and not let it die.

I get approached EVERY time I go to the beach, old & young alike, the typical questions, is it lucrative, how much do the units cost, what's the best thing I've ever found, I have no problem talking to people, especially the kids but I'm not there to socialize so I keep the convos short & be on my way, plus it's too hot here to stand there & talk for 30 minutes.

I don't mind the kids wanting to ask or see what I'm digging. I hope they get interested and want to do it sometime. The Adults annoy the heck out of me if they won't say their peice then go on their way. Kids are better at catching the hint that it's time to run along than the adults are. But like others, when I am really focused, I keep my eys on the ground and never remove my headphones, and wander away from people.

I just Blast Them with my Laser Eyes and Their Gone Forever ! Actually I don't get approached to much and If I do I will jaw with them for a Bit then just politely tell them That I need to get back to what I was Doing. It seems to work out fine on both ends.
