The BEST Martini Recipe

I got this recipe from a guy who used to tend bar at Grand Central Station in NYC, absolutely the best dry Martini you'll ever taste.

Always keep a good quality Vodka in the freezer - Grey Goose is Good
Put your Martini glasses in the freezer for a half hour before you mix a Martini
Keep your Dry Vermouth in the fridge (Martini & Rossi Extra Dry) - it'll freeze in the freezer

Put a splash of good single malt scotch in the nipple at the bottom of the Martini glass
Add 3 oz. of Vodka from the freezer
Add 1.5 oz of Vermouth from the fridge
Top off with 3 Queen Olives (stuffed)

Serve Immediately, mist will be coming down the side of the Martini glass and the flavour is Incredible.

1 Martini is Excellent, 2 is Spectacular, 3 is pretty good I think, 4 is . . . I can't really remember and who are you and why are you sleeping beside me??

As a former bartender (for 4 years to put myself through school) I have to tell you that this recipe does sound good... but 1.5oz of dry Vermouth is a little much. I always made mine with .5oz, and if it's a gin martini, I splash some in the glass, swirl it around and toss it out. Martini's should be stirred... shaken causes them to be watered down (altho much cooler), and distracts from the taste... the vodka/gin even gets all foggy, you can SEE the air bubbles... I never understood why Mr. Bond always wanted 'em shaken.

Now... a good single malt scotch isn't easy to come by. So goodluck. I know an excellent chocolate martini recipe if anyone wants (needs?) a desert drink...

It always pays to ask an expert! Stirred is definitely the way to go especially if the vodka is ice cold. The single malt scotch gives a nice edge but you need to balance it with a little extra vermouth in my experience. If you cut the vermouth back to just a splash you will get an ultra dry martini if that's to your taste. I like them that way in the winter but most people say it's too dry so I top up with extra vermouth for guests.
Bombay Sapphire deserves to be poured over ice and that's it, 3 fingers does the trick for me.
