If all else fails you may have to take it into the shop for repair or even buy a new computer. If you're running Windows 98 I'm assuming that you've got an older machine. They should be able to transfer all of you data onto the new hard drive if that's what it comes to.

Cheers Mate,

BDA

Hey Rip, sounds like it could be a virus. You can try this online virus check from Symantec (Norton). If you suspect a virus, this is the way to go, it's free and, the virus program on your computer, if infected, won't tell you you have one if you could even get it to run. It will ask you to download an activex file which is necessary to run it and is safe. This virus check won't be affected by problems with your computer and if a virus is found the symantec website has info on it's removal.

Depending on the amount of stuff you have on your computer, it could take awhile. Mine took several hours and I just ran it overnight.....one thing, don't browse away from the page during the scan.

But first I'd back up anything that you don't want to lose, not because of this scan but just to play it safe!

Good luck!

Hey RIP, do a google search for the .dll that is messed up. You may be able to find a site that will allow you to repair that file. Just a stab at it, but it has worked for me in the past.

If you do a google search for the specific error, too, you might be able to read up on how to repair it. Good Luck!

I would think that a reformat would be your very last option. Just my opinion...

Thanks Pris I'll try that.I been talkin at Twodogsbob and he found a site for me were I was at least able to download a new program. It did a scan and found the problem but now I have to pay em 20 bucks. But anyhow I know what the problem is so I can do the search like you suggested and fix it mabey.Still going to get the new program though.I figger it's about time for a new pc soon,it's kindof a pain prying that little tray thingy that holds your disks open with my swiss army knife everytime I need it. I was going to do that today but I'm having a rather stressfull day blah blah blah.... So I'm thinking of going for a long walk in the woods and chill for awile the sun is shinin and it's going all the way up into the 40's today

I don't know many situations that a nice walk in the woods won't repair. It won't help your computer, but it can sure clear your mind so you can help your computer. It helps you help yourself!!!

Default Computer Pc problems

If you are running any thing but Vista , you can try this. I dont how Vista works. Go to the start button, click RUN, a window will pop up, type in "msconfig" , click ok. A menu will pop up the last tab should be "Start up" . click that tab. A menu will pop up with all your programs starting when in boot up. Beside each is a box with a check in it. Uncheck the first item. Leave the rest checked. Click ok, and exit that menu box. Back to start and click restart. Do that for each and every box in the drop down where the checks were rechecking to show a check on the last item when you previously shut down. When you get to the boot up and it starts normal with out errors it will be that last program you unchecked that is causing the problem. either delete that program or reinstall it without deleting . Then go back to the Run, Start up , and check the program that you unchecked . It should be ok.
Another way if your running Windows XP is go to START, PROGRAMS, Assec. (which should be at the top of program list) Click find System tools. Find SYSTEM RESTORE. DO NOT CLICK RESTORE TO ORIGINAL. Click to restore to a previous date. Decide on the calendar at which point the system boot up began giving errors. Go past that date to a date that is bold . click that date, the start . Windows XP has a program that will roll back the registry to an earlier check point date . Some files can be lost , Such as recent installed programs , edited up dated files etc. its wise to back up those files
If the restore to earlier time dont work you can undo the restore . If all this dont work , Take to a tech

Rip, I know your frustration. I too have nothing but computer problems all the time. For one all I can get for now is very slow dial-up, I'm talking a speed of 26.4 kbps. Any forums or pages I visit such as myspace I can't hardly do anything with it anymore because the more fancy stuff they add, the worse it is for me and my computer.
A few weeks ago my comptuer just wouldn't even dail up at all, talk about being p's....so I did what was stated all ready by leesum, I went back to a date on the computer just before it started messing up, that worked. Then still computer running very sluggish, getting worse by the day, I never have a problem with TQ ever running slow, even if other web pages are not coming up for me, but NOW TQ is not running right on my computer ...so I'm thinking Virus...so I did a virus scan, adaware found lots of critical problems on my computer so I had paid the twenty... one -time fee to rid my computer of them, and It did get rid of virus and whatever was on it, but still not running any better.
I think I'm down to my last option of saving what I can to a disk, and completely wipe out computer, then reinstall the computer set up disks...we done this years ago on our old computer and It does work.....but I hate having to set everything up again.
Good Luck to you and remember you are not in this alone!
