A quality machine is a big helps but it's useless without the will to get out and seek.

That said, a powerful detector suited to the right conditions can be a deadly gold seeking weapon in the hands of a trained hunter. I relearned the hobby on an ACE250 but soon tired of it and bought an Excalibur 1000. This allowed me to get into the water where I surmised correctly that the good loot would be found. Plenty of punch in this detector and after many hundreds of hours swinging the Excal it sings for me like an angel. My Excal and I now speak the same language and it has lots to tell me because it is a deep seeker and I know where to put it so it has lots to tell me.

I still swing the ACE250 on occassion for fun and I find pretty good stuff with it because I know how to push it to it's limits.
