Default My hunt tomorrow

Long before I was born My great, great, grandparents purchased 160 acres inland of the White River here in Arkansas. This 160 acres was bought with a PIG. They homesteaded this land and through the years some of it was sold off. Of what was left, my mother inherited 13 1/3 acres. Tomorrow I am going to hunt part of this land. Hopefuly the rain will hold off and the temps will cooperate to keep snakes at bay. The original homestead was on this part of the property as far as my mother remembers. There is a second home that was built later and its on the edge of thr property bordering hers. Thus far I have no idea who now owns this tract. I should find out tomorrow when we go to the records office to pay a few more years taxes. My mother remembers playing with a Prince Albert tobacco can that was filled with silver dollars, and just like most 4 or 5 year olds she lost it.

From what I can find by looking at Civil War records, Woodruff County was the site of several battles before the land was homesteaded, this land included. Maybe I will find a few things of interest.

There shouldn't be very many modern types of trash as most of this is virgin timber and no hunting has been allowed. This will be the first time I have been to the homestead property in 25 years since my great great grandmother died. My great great grandmother was born in 1900.

A funnt story about my visits to my grandmothers house. This is where I learned that hamburgers, steaks, and roasts came from cows.
My grandmother had a baby bull named Buck that I adopted as my friend one summer. Buck and I were best friends and he would follow me everywhere. When I went to visit the next summer I noticed Buck was no where to be found. When I asked grandma where he had gotten off to, her reply was " hes on the supper table". I cried and cried for days and it was a long time before I could eat anything with beef in it. Growing up as a city girl in the military I didn't learn things of this nature. To this day my sister will not eat fresh eggs because they come from a chickens backside. I don't know where she thinks the ones in the store come from

Sounds like a great place to hunt, hope you can find that Prince Albert can! Good luck on finding the owners of the second tract and getting permission to hunt it!

Funny about your sister. When we were little, y sister ate rabbit and loved it.....until she found out it wasn't chicken .

I wish you a bunch of luck hunting. I hope you finds the silver and some other good stuff.

Yea growing up on a farm allows for all the food you wnat, but you are better off not naming or adopting. I adopted a calf once, her mother died giving birth. Named the calf and I cried when we had to sell her, Beale.

Well it looks like the weather is not going to cooperate and I also have to work. Last minute orders came in and guess who got volunteered ( another way of saying you WILL be here). The hunt will have to wait until next weekend I suppose. That silver has been there for this long, I suppose another week or 2 won't make a difference.
