Default Flooding River banks - a good place to repeatedly hunt?

Greetings, my sister owns a 400 acre farm that lines a river. The River floods the corn feilds several times each winter on average. Does this suggest to you that it might be worth detecting after each flood in the same areas as new old goodies could have been recently deposited via the flood water or old soil layers eroded now exposing new finds? thanks and good luck, Stephen

It could work both ways Stephen, certainly worth checking and 400 hundred acres is going to keep you busy forever.

Greetings Anne, I agree, I could keep myself very busy walking the farm's river banks. The farm also is a stones throw away from Huguenot Street which was settled by the Dutch around 1690s. good luck, Stephen

Only lighter items will be deposited on the banks of the river after it floods. Heavier items (gold, silver, etc.) will wind up in back eddies and under boulders and other obstructions. I would keep an eye on the river during the flooding phase and monitor where the current slows down. When you get into low water conditions at the end of the summer/early fall you may have some luck in the area where the current slowed during flooding.

Good hunting,

BDA

hello Stephen,My good buddy that I detect with quite often is originally from New Palse .He's allways telling me we should head down that way and do some huntin. From what he's told me,there should be some great stuff there. We hunt along the river's and look for high ground and then scout it out for sighns of bricks and glass to find old sites.Low area's can acumulate alot of silt making targets deeper, but as Anne said it can work both ways.We have a site were we havent really hit the low area's yet.Last time there I started to concentrate on the low area's and found a 1/2 reale at about 8 inches or more. Then in the same area I have also found beer cans at over a foot deep.Keep your eyes open for Indian artifacts as well ! Best of luck and I'm looking forward to seeing what ya find.

Thanks Beale, I am sitting here brain storming, I just realized that I have a friend who had a town that no longer exists on her property! No sign of it on the surface. The road she lives on is named after the extinct town...can't wait for my F2 to here. Eureka!
