I believe it is a reference ruler so that they can accurately gage sizes using the ruler as reference. I suspect it is a foot long and the 2 colors are each 6" in length.

How do you know he died happy? The mug was empty and there were NO pretzels. Maybe he ran out of beer, BEFORE he died?

I think the mug may be the white object in his right hand down by his hip,not sure cuz my eyes kept drifting to the photo of Suzanne Shaw on the right side of the page.
