Default A Bit Dissapointed

I was going home yesterday when I saw that they are re-doing some of the sidewalks so it is removed and the dirt is exposed. My detector was at home and today I cannot do it because my wife has to go to work as soon as I get home. If I see the sidewalk is exposed today or they are doing any other sections on my way home I will bring my detector tomorrow and detect at least for 10-15 minutes. Has anyone ever done this? The sidewalks that are exposed have these barricades you know the ones just so people do not mistakenly trip. I am planning to remove the barricade for a bit and detect then put it back. Is that the right thing to do? I personally do not think I am doing anything wrong by doing that and if I am then either the police or some worker will let me know to leave and I will. I mean it is public property. Also if I do see someone who is working on the street I will ask him or her if it is okay to detect? Has anyone ever detected an exposed sidewalk with good results? I mean even finding a penny could be either a wheat or ih or even better silver. I already missed an opportunity of detecting a sidewalk before and I do not want to miss this one. Hope I get a chance tomorrow. Let me know. Thanks.

I would think that it would be ok but you never know. Maybe you could find some workers and let them know what you're planning, or ask them. Torn up sidewalks are a great place to md, especially if they're real old. I missed my chance at doing this back in Galena, Illinois. The city tore up all downtown sidewalks and streets and redid them, and the town is real old. ( 9 civil war generals came from there). So go for it! Good luck!

You could always put on an orange safety vest and dangle a clipboard people would probally think you just work for the construction team. Just a thought.

Smart fox I have often thought about wearing bright orange vest writing gas company on it and if asked tell them you are checking to make sure no gas lines in area...what do you think?

I would ask someone if they are around. Tho Technically it is Public Property,, The City or Town may not be open to you detecting that area as they may feel that they could be Liable should you trip or fall and get hurt. Myself, I would ask someone if possible and if not I would give it a go. I have hit a couple spots where they tore up the Old sidewalk and tho it was not a long stretch I did pull a few old pennies, couple nickles and a quarter. Situations like that I just go with my gut feeling. Good Luck SmartFox. The Temptation is almost unbearable I'm sure.

Default 27 Days Digging Decatur

Hi Smartfox,
Google Superrons homepage..........digging Decatur. It is very informative about how he worked the construction people, town people and other MDer's to get what he wanted. His dig was during the mid 90's when Decatur, Michigan was doing construction work in their small town. Give it a look.

I have the same thing going on here in my town right now. Too wet to dig, but I spoke with the foreman. He said, (quoting in typical foreman voice) "We don't get here until 8:00 and we leave at 5:00, so what we don't know, don't hurt us. Besides, it's public property, just don't get hurt". I promised I wouldn't then tripped on the uneven concrete as I turned to walk away. Acted like nothing happened of course. So I say go for it.

Default thanks. awsome

good to know. I'm afraid that by tomorrow it will all be done. I just waited a day the last time and it was done. I will be detecting after my aftercare job at school so it would be about 6 P.M. so no workers. I rather not ask sometimes.

Default Good News

I went around the area and at the beginning it looked like they had done it all but as I kept going I saw that there were a few areas they have not done yet. Going to take detector and give it a try tomorrow. With my luck I will probably miss it by a couple of hours. Like Sylvester Stallone said in Rocky "Wish me luck. I will need it"
