Default Who needs to fish?

Just a thought....

My dad loves to fish but he never did before moving to Florida.
He tried to get me into it, but it didn't work. That was about 5 years ago when I moved here. I got into golf (another Florida requirement), but it's an expensive, time consuming hobby.

I recently got into this Metal Detecting thing, and I was hooked before I even got my detector!

I'm now trying to get my dad into it...I explained that's it just like fishing...some days you'll go out there and land a ring or necklace or old coin, and some days you'll come home with a pocket full of sand and bottle caps. (BTW, I'm still waiting to score a ring or something)

But it's not just about what you find, just like fishing, it's about being out there, on the beach, or wherever you hunt, enjoying the scenery, relaxing, not thinking or worrying about anything!

It wont take long before he runs out and buys a detector!

I have done my share of fishing. Since I started detecting though... well I still buy a license, and take the Family fishing several times a year. My girls and I go out after a rain to gather worms to use, they love it and so do I.

Hope he likes Detecting!

Hope your dad takes you up on it, did you mention to him about the exercise and potential for profit ? I'll bet if you show him a nice piece of jewelry that you find, he'll be convinced! Maybe even go fishing with him and detect? Good luck with your dad!

I love to fish...and golf. So i know where you're coming from. When i'm mding or looking for gold i think of it as fishing too...dirt fishing! But if you told me about a good fishing hole somewhere and the bass were jumping, i'd be all over it. Hard to decide what to do on a nice day, with all these hobbies!

Default If you ever want to quit fishing.......

Build a pond. I used to live(and love) to fish. Had a couple of boats, went salt-water fishing, lake fishing, etc. Then, I decided to build a 2 acre, 18' deep pond out behind the house, so I wouldn't have to drive anywhere to fish. Stocked the pond with a good variety of fish, and then sold the boats. Then went the fishing equipment. Now, I don't fish at all. Lord, I hope I never give up detecting............
