Default newbie questions

Since my MD is due in today, I wanted to get some ideas from you all. I mainly want to hunt for civil war relics, but will also be going around to some of the local high schools and our local lake (before they fill it back up for the summer). My main question is, do you all just do this for collecting, or do some of you actually sell/auction off your finds.... and if you do, where do you get started? I am not in this to make money, but have been curious about this since I got the idea to get into MD. I would appreciate any insites that you all can give.

I just do it for the collecting..........I have had to reluctantly sell a couple of things because the farmer wanted his cut so they went to auction.

i dont really plan on selling anything i have found or will find, seeing as most coins have little value unless they are in great condition and/or a key date. i think its much cooler to keep everything you find so you can show it to people who dont appreciate the hobby

I clean and keep my clad. I am saving it up for 1 full year just to see how much it adds up to?

I keep all my "cool' stuff, and the few good coins I find, Beale.

Default Sell? Maybe!

VW-
I just started as well. I'm unsure with what I'll do with my good finds. If I find a ring, I hope I can sell it to make a little $, but I've never been good at getting rid of things!
The clad I'll keep.

Keep us posted!
Happy Hunting!

I haven't actually gotten a detector yet or been on any hunts. I'm still stuck in the research portion for the moment.
I probably wouldn't sell anything I found unless it proved to be so valuable that I just couldn't live without the money......and I really don't count on ever getting that lucky, so I figure it's just going to be a fun hobby.
I Know we've never met, but I've seen that bike of yours many times here and there. Damn nice ride.

Clad gets saved all year and cashed-in to help fund our yearly anniversary trip (pocket change gets saved too) we've managed to always save 3-4 hundred each year...(definitely NOT all from clad finds!)nice walking around cash when you're on vacation...

Big Bill is right tho...everything has its price - and if the price is right - I'd sell.

my miniscule find collection doesn't warrant a reply quite yet...i havent even broke 2 dollars in clad , so not much experience to back this up. but my goal i guess is to save all of it for a new machine...sometime.

Clad adds up surprisingly quickly. I've given away as much jewellery as I've sold. The plain gold bands and junk silver keeps amassing itself to the point that I'm ready to cash it in soon. Platinum I never sell, period. I will be melting some stuff down soon for a custom ring for my Princess, I just need one more good diamond to go with the sapphire and other medium diamonds I have already. I'm not much for jewellery myself but if the right emerald came along I might have to melt down some gold for a setting.

Cheers,

BDA
