I wear the full cover style. I actually prefer them over the other type? I have yet to try smaller kind with my metal detector, Beale.

Full cup! Especially if your a bit hard of hearing like me. There's been allot of talk about the small walkman type to the ear bud type. The smaller the speaker the more tones you'll miss, weather because of white noise in the background or because the smaller set is just too miss matched and doesn't transmit the tone.
Now if your hunting in an area where you really should hear what's going on around you, and maybe be buddy hunting, taking the risk of missing targets may not be such a bad idea. If you want a real shocker find a buddy or dealer that'll let you listen to different head phones on your detector and scan a few items, it'll really shock you how different they can sound. Really makes you understand the phrase clean tone and dirty tone.

I use the full cups also. I would like to use smaller ones at the beach but with the surf noise the full cups are the best choice for me even though they're hot.
