Default MD Hunting Site Service

Nearly everyone who posts on TQ initially asks the question “Where can I go to hunt?” This has given me an idea for which I’d like all of your opinions.

All of us have probably seen or heard of “vacation home bartering”. For those who haven’t, this is an organized service where, for example, someone living in Florida and someone living in Las Vegas could “exchange” homes for a specified period of time – and reduce the cost of housing while on vacation.

What I’m thinking about is similar – but not exactly the same – for MD’ing:

For example, before I moved to Colorado, I lived for a number of years in PA. I know a lot of people, and know of places to detect there – but it’s unlikely that I’ll get a lot of chances to hunt the area. For the MD service I’m proposing, I would list the areas, contact the property owners to secure permission in advance and then make this information available to TQ members who may be visiting the area.

When a TQ member wants to visit and hunt the area, I would contact the property owner(s), and provide them with the TQ member’s name and info and let them know to expect a call from that person – and then the two of them would make the final arrangements for the visit.

This would be a strict “honor system” approach – and folks using it would naturally need to follow the MD Code of Ethics, etc. in order to maintain a good reputation.

This service is NOT to provide others with hunting areas in YOUR OWN area in which you live and hunt. Here’s what I mean:

Let’s say that Buster’s great aunt Martha owns an old homestead in Alaska. I’m planning to go on vacation to Alaska and post my intentions on TQ. Buster PM’s me and says “I called Aunt Martha – and she says “no problem” if you’d like to MD on her property – here’s her number – she’s expecting your call”. I then call Aunt Martha (Buster has already given her my name) and confirm a day and time to visit and hunt.

There would be a lot of leg work in putting this together – but I wanted to see what y’all thought about this – and if anyone would be willing to participate if such a service could be organized.

Sounds like a plan to me. Im prety sure Buster has family in Austin, MN at the local Hormel Plant. Im sure he would be thrilled... No just kidding. It actually sounds like a great idea. TQ Networking. I live in a smallish town that is a few hundread years old and have connected the dots with quite a few locals and so far most are very amicable. It will pay off very soon, Im sure and it also makes us all have better communities by knowing our neighbors...
