Default Spam Dogs

Posted by Phil Vettel at 1:45 p.m. CDT
Henry Adaniya, owner of the late, great Trio restaurant, has really gone to the dogs. The restaurateur has moved to Hawaii, and on Monday opened Hank's Haute Dogs (324 Coral Ave., Honolulu) a short stroll from Waikiki Beach.
"It's been wild," says Adaniya of his new venture. "People love food here, and we're new, so this thing has exploded. We run out of everything on a daily basis, so we've been prepping like crazy."
The operation, similar in many respects to Hot Doug's in Chicago, offers authentic local tastes such as a Chicago dog (with Vienna beef dogs) and bratwurst (with Usinger sausages). There are Portuguese dogs (made with local kukui sausages), Cajun dogs (with andouille), a version featuring duck sausage and foie gras and, of course, a special Spam dog (Hawaii leads the nation in per-capita Spam consumption).
Adaniya has been talking about opening an upscale hot-dog emporium in Hawaii for years, so it's nice to see his dream become a reality---and a wildly successful one at that.
"I came here to retire," whines Adaniya in mock complaint, "but this thing has hit like crazy. I'm loving it."

I don't think they were open for business when I was there...If I'd seen it - I definitely would have had a SPAM dog...if for no other reason than I could brag about it to you!
