Default My Path to Detecting

TQ'ers-

I have always been interested in treasure hunting. The thought of finding a piece of history, something that no one else has laid hands or eyes on in years seems facinating. I remember being a kid and my Dad buying me a set of Civil War bullets, WOW, I was amazed. A year ago or so, my wife and I went to the King Tut exhibit and I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that the suff we were looking at was 3000 years old!
Imagine digging something up that old...
I have tried my hands at many hobbies over the years, some have stuck, some have fallen by the wayside.
Over the last 6 months or so, I have thought about treasure hunting/metal detecting. Recently I have seen a show on tv where some woman goes all over and hunts for different things. Gold, gemstones, stuff like that.
On one day off, the show was on, and it just so happened to be about metal detecting. The thrill of the hunt...the mystery of what you might dig up...the friendly competition and comaderie...I was hooked right there!
I made the decision that I wanted a detector for my birthday. I told my wife and she was puzzled...this was not something I talked about previously. I just thought that living in South Florida, with beaches everywhere, even if I found some coins and a piece of jewelry every now and then, it would all be worth it.
I did some research, purchased a reasonable machine for beginners and hit the beach!
I have now been on 4 hunts and every one keeps getting better!
On my last hunt, I found a pair of silver earrings!
Even when I don't make the great find that I want, being out there...on the beach...listening to the wind..enjoying the scenery...I couldn't be happier and more relaxed!
I'm hooked. And I love sharing my experience with all the Treasure Questers. You guys are the best!

Thanks for reading and HAPPY HUNTING!
