Default Need some advice here!!

Hey guys I have a question i hope to get some advice. On my ace250 the sensitivity bar.....Where in the world should i run it at and what are the pros/cons..

For example:

2 nights ago I was detecting in a area where it was trashy with old burnt stuff and running high sens. I would detect this stuff and dig to turn up to be a mineralized stone or blob. When i would turn it down i would not get these target hits.

Lastnight i was detecting where new soil was put over a pre 1900 fairgrounds (not sure of depth of new soil) but i cranked up the sens and had hits dug them up and was happy. When i would turn it down to mid bar level i would not show hits....

Please advice if any...Thanks in advance!!

Eric

Generally you want to lower sensitivity if you know it is real trashy. I try to go in and discriminate out all the junk metal and just dig my good hits.

That sounds right because there was good soil without allot of junk mixed in therefore when you had it cranked up your machine was able to detect without getting hit with allot of junk metal.

So correct me if i am wrong..when its not trashy i can run sensitivity up..I have been playing around a bit, but i was not 100% sure. Also when i run my sensitivity up is my depth range increasing?

I still have to play with the sens a little every time I get my 250 out. But it does depend on the area. there are places I can crank it up, Then I'll run over some undesireables, Turn it back down a while. I'm still learning my machine. But I've had some good find's with it. Just practice and have fun!

As far as depth, I think higher sens will pick up a little deeper? So will damp/moist soil, I think.

I use my Ace250 for salt beach hunting, yea your not suppose to be able to do that. Anyway one of the cool things about the programing on the Ace is the lower sens really doesn't take away much from the depth although soil conditions, swing speed, how close and level to the soil is the coil....
If there's allot of burnt aluminum you'll find it if the sens is set on two bars or five unless you notch it out and that's not a good idea because gold will ring just like small aluminum does. Generally speaking the higher the sens the deeper smaller and bad angle targets will report that won't with lower settings.
I wish I could figure out how to not dig trash but I'm still digging pull tabs, can slaw and pop tops because every once in a while it's something worth keeping.
Just think of it like this, once you have allot of the trash cleared the next dig could be golden.

Which mode is best for kiddie parks..coin or jewlry..Its cool how you can be in coin and get a good hit then toggle to all metal and it really gets louder and more precise..the Ace 250 surprised me today found a crushed soda can at close to 9" in all metal..wood chips and a little bit of dirt..the yellow machine will find the goods you just need to take it slow and let it work...Nice machine for the money..

I keep mine in all metal mode all the time, the sounds are different enough to get an idea of what's in the ground. Besides I like to be the one deciding if I want to dig or not and not let the detector decide what it'll report or not.

I run all metal with sens all the way up, unless it gets real trashy. I discrim out iron alot of the times.
