I just started last week. Alot of fun, except when you dont find them. I had a DNF today after almost a 1 mile walk. Buy have had fun finding 10 or so already.

Yes, but haven't done much in a while. Also some letterboxing... Maybe I'll find time this summer to do some. I have a couple caches I've been intending to place as well.

Its where someone hides a container with a log and sometime some small articles and you use your GPS and the coordinates and hints they give to find it.

Let's see if I can give you a good definition of Geochaching.

I am not certain exactly how long it has been going on but Geochaching is a phenomenum that has taken hold all over the world.

People take a weather proof storage container, usually the size of a coffee can and then place a log book, a pencil and something inside it. It can be almost anything from a toy to a ring to a favorite recipe.

It gets placed in a location and then they post the Latitude and Longitude or they give some clues about where to find the cache. Other Geocache enthusiasts seek it out and log into the book. They can leave something in the cache or take something from the cache, do both or do nothing.

Some are harder to find than others and require more than just finding the location. They can be buried or concealed in some way once you reach a location.

After they have visited the cache, they can note it on the Geocache webpage and tell what they did.

That is about all I know about it.

I am not certain about letterboxing.

^^ that pretty much sum's it up^^ In 2000 the goverment filp the switch. (how they called it) on GPS units for the general public..Before 2000 GPS units(the ones we could get) where only acuret to only 100m, and afer the switch they where acuret to 15m, The newer GPS units with high sensitivity are acuret to about 1-3m.. So it started the sport of geocaching in 2000 or 2001..
(the m repersents meters)

Default I have a friend who does it

My friend and his wife are retired and they've been doing it for some time. He told that some of the stuff in the caches are things that have a destination. For instance, someone got the bright idea of putting a troll doll in with a note in their cache that said he wanted to go to London or someplace. Eventually someone found him, and took him, and the note, added a logbook to him and moved him to another cache, closer to the destination. Well, he started out in the US, and made it to several major cities around the world before he wound up back in the cache he started in the year before! Since then, several people have started Roaming Gnomes and such and geocachers move 'em around and log and post their whereabouts.
