Default Pictures of the carvings

Ok folks , some have expressed interest in the carvings on the trees I was mentioning. The wife and I were out in the woods this afternoon and I ran accross some of the trees I was talking about. There are quite a few around the country here ,all seem to be the same type of tree a beech I think not sure but here are the pics I hope.
The trees were in a creek bottom and about 100 yards apart at this site . There are many more scattered thru the woods around here but all seem to be the same type tree. Many of the markings are hard to see I think mainly from age and the tree growth and the fact they had to be downsized considerably to upload for an attachment. If any one can give me some clues , please do
In one of the pics it appears there is a hand of some fashion with a C at the right of it . On another I think by the J there seems to be some sort of picture of a bird maybe or a turtle its hard to tell . Some of these pictures seem to be of some animal or bird then there are a lot of intials carved into the tree also

Seen lots of carvings along with names and dates on Beech Trees. Found one tree with Willie Shoemaker inscribed on a tree dated in the 30's. Willie Shoemaker was one of the most famous Jockey's in history and no idea who inscribed it.I often observe carved Beech trees for names, dates and unusual markings at wooded sites but never found anything more than a few older coins at some older dated trees.Interesting post Leesumm. About 4 years ago I was wading up a creek close to my home town, It was the middle of july and felt like it was 200 degrees outside. As I walked up the creek I noticed a dangerous spot in the creek with a big cotton mouth hanging off of a limb. To prevent us encountering I chose to walk the bank for the next 50 yards or so, but I had to venture futher out in the woods because it was so growed up and as I walked down a small deer trail I walked up on something that literly scared me to death, a bunch of rabid dogs eating something. Their I was with a fishing pole my little case knife, soaking wet couldnt run away and they started growling. I pulled out my knife and just backed up real slow and they just set their and kept eating what ever it was. I decided it was time to go home and walked the easy but long road home. Thats the wierdest thing I have ever come up on.
