Default what are my chances of finding silver?

My neighbors house was built in the 50's. I assume that back then people only used silver quarters and dimes because common sense would say that they were the only currency around. I have been detecting my property for a while and I do find coins but unfortunately no silver yet. I think if I just keep at it I should find one or several soon. Will be detecting under the grass. I'm getting so good that no one even knows I detected if they did not see me.

You're certainly in the right time frame, Smartfox. Of course, a quarter bought a lot more back then so people held on tight to their change. I remember a neighbour losing some change out of his pocket while sitting on his front stairs. You could see the money through the slats in the wooden steps but he couldn't fish it out so he tore his front steps off to get his change back. (this was in the 60's) Then he had to renail the steps back into position, that's how tightly some people hung onto their money back then.
Keep swinging and something will come.

Cheers,

BDA

Chances are if you find wheats in the area, then silver should be close by...hopefully......Keep hiting it...Buster...

Default Thanks

I'm looking forward to it. My yard is a bit small but I am going slow and finding stuff. I will do my neighbors yard slowly by sections just taking it easy. I have 5 months until she comes back and she gave me the permission I needed. Will try to do the back yard as well but for some reason I get a lot of interference so will start with the easy first which is the front yards.

Default Silver

Ya just never know about the silver, I detected for the very first time this year last Sat with a brand new detector that I had never used at a site that goes back to the 1950s & in about 3 1/2 hours I found 2 Silver dimes 1949 & 59 & a Silver quarter 1962 & 5 wheaties. I posted my finds on the site & everyone is like great job nice finds etc... & I'm like I guess it was ok for the first time out this year. Its all relative in I guess what your use to finding & of course where you hunt. Obviously Silver is much harder to come by today, that's why most people are pretty happy when they still find some. Just keep plugging away & it will come to you! God Luck!

Your chances of finding silver are good in my opinion.Finding silver is a matter of where you hunt, research, research, research.I have an old school site that gives up about a dozen wheaties and 3 to 5 siver coins a hunt. All the playground equipment area was pounded by detectorists before I got there.I'm hunting out away from the obvious places.I found my first 1918 Standing Liberty Half there. It was about 8 inches deep in an area full of aluminum can slaw.Others avoided this area because of the trash.Keep at it.Bill

It's been hit or miss for me. I've found a silver dime on a parkway, but nary a single silver coin while detecting an entire property at another house. What surprises me is I only find a single silver single coin at about 60% of the properties I detected. Sometimes the 'silver coin' is a war nickel, which is better than nothing at all.
