Default Ok I'm frustrated

I made a test garden with pull tabs, bottle caps, penny, dime, nickel, quarter at 1,2,4,6 inches. all i can detect are the 1,2 and maybe 4. Am i doing something wrong with the prizmII or just inexperience? I also went out once for an hour and got a quarter and a toy car but detected a lot of other stuff. The signals all kind of sound alike except i hear one and can't get it to repeat but dig it and sure enough it is junk. On the quarter hit in the field it was about 1 inch and repeated nicely. I had the sens. way up and the disc. on nails and foil. am i whining or really inexperienced. I hope it goes deeper than 2 inches. I've got big plans if you know what i mean and can only get to detect about once a week if that. also, the pinpoint is tricky because it is just this big hum which gets bigger over the target (?) my old had a continuous tone that beep beeped over a target to pinpoint. I know i nee to learn the tones....will it get easier? Thanks for reading and responding. I respect you guy's opinion.

Hey CM, I've got the Prizm III & have found pull tabs at the beach 7-8 inches down, beer cans as deep as 18 inches, turn the sens down a little, I also disc out nails & foil, too much of that at the beaches, just keep at it, I know it can be frustrating but don't give up, you'll get it.

I went out last wekend to the beach to play around with my new GTP 1350. I managed to find some quarters, dimes and pennies, but no nickels. I did find a 1964 D penny. That was pretty cool.

It also picked up trash, but after a few hours, I began to notice a different tone for trash.

Higher pitches meant better finds while real low pitches meant junk. I dug everything to verify. Now with that said, I am still learning and I am sure that once I get the hang of it, this detector will become part of my body.

I got more loot in 20 minutes around the parking lot sand then 2 hours at the beach...LOL

Another thing I noticed was, MY ARM WAS SORE the next day...LOL. Over time, I think this will go away, because I am using muscles in a fashion that was never used before. I lift weights too.

Anyways, dont give up.

You should be picking up things deeper than 2-4 inches. Don't give up. Keep practicing and keep digging, and you will soon work it out.

Headphones are a must to hear the deeper targets. Keep at it and practice makes perfect. I am learning new things about the M6 each time I go out!

Default Test Gardens

My experience with test gardens are that they do fine with "shallow" targets that have been "recently" placed. For some reason deep coins that have been in the ground for years give solid faint singnals. And in my experience, Pick up at deeper depths. It is what I would guess to be the halo effect. Soil conditions also make a difference with how deep you can get a target. When the soil is moist the silver can be found at deeper depths. This has just been my experience.

Hey Male keep at it for sure. Old coins that have been ti the ground will pick up deeper than new coins just put in. You may also want to give the garden some time to get to this point. It will happen soon. I know you will find the deeper coins, Beale.

If the PrizmII is like my old PrizmIV there are no "faint" signals. It's a silent search unit and it gives a full volume tone on anything it detects. My Prizm would hit coins reliably at 4", and 6" at times when the soil was moderately moist. As far as I know the PII has all of the detecting ability of the PIV -- just not as many features.
