Thats a great story. I think it is pertinent that we act as ambassadors every day and if we can help someone it is our duty. As you found out with this story the rewards can be huge..
As far as getting your name out there. My approach was to build credibility within my local communitys. 1st -I contacted all the local parks and schools letting them know my intentions and getting all permissions in line. 2nd -I joined the local Historical society. This is a good idea for many reasons. If your truly into finding historical sites it is a great place to do research and to ask questions to the experts. Also, the amount of contacts ive made being involved with this group has been amazing and advantageous to my pursuit of History and Historical sites. 3rd -Visit your local musuems. I did some research on a site in the museum working with the archevist and she has since offered me access to hunt the musuem grounds which used to be the powder house (1700's) for the local military installation. These affiliations are a great way to get your credentials in order for the really interesting sites that only those with permissions can hunt. My point, they are virgin sites! Also, my affliations with these groups has led me to permissions on sites that the city owns through the mayors office. The mayor's permission for these virgin sites is PURE GOLD!! I keep all my permissions and credentials in a folder in my car at all times. After awhile you should be able to put your name out there as a service to help recover lost items or other services.. If you talk to a property owner and tell him what youve done, show him your credentials and it makes it alot easier for someone to allow you on their property to dig holes... Just a few ideas and pardon any spelling errors or length of my reply.. Good luck ![]()

60 coins dating back to the 1800s? That guy could probably retire by now if the coins are in decent shape. definitely a good idea.

What a neat idea to get the permission to hunt a site! I like it, Beale.
