Default Help and information, please...

I think someone had tried to help me with this a while back, but I never got around to putting it to work, and I'm kinda starting from scratch again...

Let's say I'm driving around in a neighborhood, and I find either a vacant house or a vacant lot... it looks old and I want to hunt on it...

What are the exact steps I need to follow to find out who owns the property, etc? I was told the county tax office, but I don't know what information to ask for or to provide for them?

Again, any help would be appreciated....

Get as close to an address as you can and then either go to the county tax accessor or look on line for them. Give them the info, ie 1800 block of 1st street between 1801 and 1805 sor similar. They can look up the plot numbers of those two addresses and give you the plot number of the vacant ones. Then you can get the info on who owns the property, and go from there. I think you are in Austin right? If so or anywhere in Travis county, go to http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tax_assessor/Default.asp

Hope that helps!

Usually from the middle of town if you are traveling out of town the even numbers are on your right and odds on your left. If you come across vacant property look on both sides of it until you locate and address and fill in the blanks. Then go to the courthouse or other sources and locate the property owner and go from there....PAPPY
